Other items:

I know my next new album purchase is going to be “Cardinology” by Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. I really don’t know this band but am totally drawn in by the 30 second sample from I-Tunes. It also received 4 stars from Rolling Stone.

Speaking of Rolling Stone, the Rocktober 31st issue is the first one with the new format, a much smaller version with sleeker paper though. Sort of reminds me of a smaller version of a Met or Yankee yearbook. It’s a collector’s item so make sure you pick it up.

You’ll have a 24 hour window to grab your free can of Dr. Pepper. On Nov. 23, once Chinese Democracy is released you can go to their website and download a coupon for the can of soda. You’ll then have to Feb. 2009 to redeem the prize.

Not only is the store Wal-Mart taking over the sale of music, (AC/DC’s Black Ice is selling at an incredible pace) but now on Wal-Mart.com they are now taking orders for the upcoming Nickelback album, Dark Horse. It won’t be released until Nov. 18 but they are taking orders now and if you purchase it you’ll be able to grab the new single “Gotta Be Somebody” right away. Pre-sale orders will also have the advantage of a bonus sound-check recording.

Queen with Paul Rodgers have put out their first studio album together and it’s called “The Cosmos Rocks.” I don’t care what the critics say, I’m a fan of Queen as well as Paul, and so putting them together has to be good, no?

Snow Patrol has released its fifth studio album with “A Hundred Million Suns.” Average rating from listeners on I-Tunes is 4 stars.

All this nonsense talk of having a Led Zeppelin reunion without Robert Plant, hey I’m just as upset as the next person but c’mon you can’t do it with another singer. That’s like…..like…. having The Sopranos without Tony. I’ll throw up if it happens without Plant.

Pink’s “Funhouse” was released this past Tuesday and the average rating here is 4.5 stars. Of course it has her hit “So What” but there are some other songs that I think will become hits as well. Look out for “Bad Influence,” “I Don’t Believe You” and the title track. Reaching a little deeper, (meaning it may not become a hit), I like “One Foot Wrong,” “Crystal Ball” and “Mean.”

The Cure released their 13th studio album (first one in four years) with “4:13 Dream.” Was never really a huge fan but I thought I would put it out there for their fans, although they probably know already.

After many months of negotiation, the Beatles have agreed to license their songs to the video game “Rock Band.” Wow, I’m stunned but at the same time I think it’s great that the younger generation will get to know the greatness of this band. Have to hand it to them, they still know how to rock on.

My favorite old school song of the week goes to “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” by T-Rex. How freakin’ awesome is this song? Timeless classic.

My other favorite old school song of the week is “Mother and Child Reunion” by Paul Simon. How great is this song? “Though I would not give you false hope…”

Michael Jackson has issued a statement that he will not participate in The Jackson 5 reunion tour in 2009.

Toby Keith has released “That Don’t Make Me a Bad Guy” and it appears the one huge song from this already is “God Love Her.” That song sounds real good. The album has a 4 star review from I-Tune listeners.

In the mood for someone to rock and blues your socks off then look no further than Susan Tedeschi’s new release “Back to the River.” Many of her fans are calling this one her best. The title track is smokin’ hot. This young woman has the soul of a seasoned blues veteran as she is cementing her legacy as the same. If you have not seen her live, you are missing out.

The Eagles of Death Metal have released a new album “Heart On” and Rolling Stone gave it a whopping four stars. As I check out the 30 second samples on I-Tunes I have to admit, this one sounds real good and fun. “WannaBe in L.A.” seems to be the most popular download but why not give the whole thing a chance. “I’m Your Torpedo” has been mentioned as the masterpiece of this one.

Since it’s the last day of Rocktober and Halloween, my youngest son must take the credit for this section of the weekly update. He said since it was Halloween, he wanted me to list the best songs related to Halloween and of course he wanted me to list it from the bottom to the top. So here goes, without much preparation:

10. Dragula – Rob Zombie- How can you have a Halloween list without Mr. Zombie? I could probably do all ten songs from him alone but this one beats out I’m Your Boogie Man for me.

9. This is Halloween– Marilyn Manson- Again how can you have a Halloween list and not include Mr. Manson? Totally cool song.

8. Bark at The Moon– Ozzy- Friggin’ phenomenal song. First three pretty good so far, huh? (I could have included the song Black Sabbath but that’s the number 1 scariest song of all-time).

7. Clap for the Wolfman– The Guess Who- One of the all time most under-rated bands.

6. The Time Warp – Soundtrack from The Rocky Horror Show- love this song, brings me back to the best Spin instructor, Chris.

5. Bat Out of Hell – Meatloaf- Love the passion from Mr. Loaf.

4. Spooky– The Classics IV- How can anyone not like this song? “Love is kind of crazy with a spooky girl like you”

3. A Nightmare on My Street– DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince- This song was so successful that the producers of Nightmare on Elm Street sued for infringement.

2. Thriller– Michael Jackson- Without a doubt when you hear this song again you realize and recognize the greatness, period end of story!! Best video of all time, hands down.

1. Monster Mash– Bobby “Boris” Pickett- C’mon you know it belongs here. What other song reminds you of Halloween more than this one? No one listens to it, except for today. One can always listen to Thriller at any point.

Back on this day in 1998, Kiss kicked off its Psycho Circus tour with a Halloween extravaganza in Los Angeles. Many fans came dressed in costumes. The Smashing Pumpkins, of course, were the openers.

Back on this day in 1970, Michelle Phillips married actor Dennis Hopper. The marriage lasted 8 days. Ooh- Faa.

Adam Horovitz is celebrating a birthday today. The Beastie Boy turns 42.

  1. 3 things:

First, I have been a loyal reader of yours from the very beginning and have enjoyed your music industry news, many of your concert reviews and music suggestions but …

#2) Is there anything you don’t like? You remind me of the guys that write the “awesome” reviews on every new i-tunes release. How much are you getting paid to pump some of this crap? EAGLES OF DEATH METAL!!!???? I understand everyone has unique taste in music and I’ll give just about anything a chance, but please, don’t waste our time with this kind of toxic waste. They truly suck!

#3) Marilyn Manson’s “I am your Vampire” blows away “This is Halloween” and should be no lower than #5.

I’ll still be a loyal reader but just had to get this off my chest. \m/\m/
