Other items:

Thoughts and prayers go out to family of Dan Fogelberg who passed away at the young age of 56 this past week from advanced prostate cancer. And now we learn that Stephen Stills has the early stages of prostate cancer as well. Same thoughts and prayers are for him.

Heard a cool new song on the radio this week (that’s right the radio- can you imagine??) and it was Jack Johnson’s "If I Had Eyes"

Rollingstone magazine this week (double issue) has a cool story for all you 80’s "Hair Band" Metal heads. Apparently this past July in Oklahoma (named Rocklahoma) there was a weekend festival where 80’s hair bands and those who love them gathered to headbang and ponder the passage of time. Very cool if you are into it.

Black Crowes set for their first new album in 7 years, hits stores on March 4, 2008 with "Warpaint" (actually a name of a song done by Rush)

OK here is my list for the top 5 songs for 2007:

1. The Pretender- The Foo Fighters

2. Stronger- Kayne West

3. Novocaine- Little Big Town

4. Umbrella- Rihanna (ella, ella, ella, ay, ay, ay)

5. Someday- John Legend

and I have to say 5(A) would be Kid Rocks "Rock N Roll Jesus." Other notables include "Bleed It Out" by Linkin Park and "I’ll Believe You When" by Matchbox 20. (new song as part of their greatest hits collection)

My top 5 albums for 2007 are the following:

1. It Won’t Be Soon Before Long- Maroon 5 (I’m sticking to my guns on this one, no sophomore slump here-better than the 1st CD.)

2. A Place To Land- Little Big Town

3. Freedom’s Road- John Mellencamp

4. Raising Sand- Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

5. Humanity Hour 1- The Scorpions (this CD really grew on me through out the year-another solid effort from them)

Other notables- Black Rain from Ozzy; Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace– The Foo Fighters (this one is finally starting to grow on me as well). Kid Rock’s Rock n Roll Jesus would have cracked the top 5 list had it not been for his juvenile "So Hott’ and "Sugar"….. Now I cannot ignore the following 3 albums which appear at the top of many other lists I have seen (but I’m just not into them): Magic– Springsteen; In Rainbows– Radiohead and American Gangster– Jay Z.

My top 5 "Cover" Albums:

1. Real to Reel (Disc 1)- Tesla (kick’s butt-period end of story)

2. Hope & Glory- Ann Wilson

3. Trav’lin’ Light- Queen Latifah

4. Forever Cool- Dean Martin & Guests (Ok not a cover but sort of- Great disc-can’t get much better than Dean)

5. Going Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino: – Various Artists

My Top 5 live shows of the Year:

1. Van Halen

2. Tesla

3. White Stripes

4. Stevie Wonder

5. Maroon 5

"Miracle of the Year"- Van Halen at Madison Square Garden on Tues. Nov. 13. ’nuff said.

"Writers of the Year"- Autobiographies from Slash and Nikki Sixx. (Who’d have thunk?)

"Bummer of the Year"- The death of Brad Delp. This guy and his music was part of my soul from the time I was a teenager. Their first album ranks up in the "all time" best. His voice is so distinctive and you knew automatically who it is. Still bums me out when I hear his voice. Also losing Denny Doherty from the Mamas and Papas-one of the best vocalists in the history of folk/rock.

"Trainwreck of the Year"- Amy Whinehouse

"Rebirth of a song for the year 2007"- "Don’t Stop Believin’" by Journey prompted by the series final scene of the Sopranos.

Need some last minute stocking stuffers? Here is a list of classic CD’s (in no particular order)- "Don’t Say No"- Billy Squier– (forget his "greatest hits" package-it doesn’t include "Lonely is the Night". How can that be? Those are the types of things that really set me off); "The Game"- Queen (personally, my favorite Queen album.) "Cornerstone" by Styx (don’t laugh); "Flirting With Disaster"- Molly Hatchet; "Point of Know Return"- Kansas ("Closet Chronicles" is one of my all time favorite songs); "Fragile"- Yes; "Low Budget"- The Kinks; "Physical Graffiti"- Led Zep ("Boogie with Stu" and " Black Country Woman" are my 2 favorite Zep songs); "Candy O"- The Cars; "Vivid"- Living Colour; "Reggatta de Blanc"- The Police; "…And Justice For All"- Metallica (talk about your head-banging ’m/ ’m/).. "Draw The Line"- Pre-Comeback and "Get a Grip"-Post-Comeback Aerosmith; "Argybargy"-Squeeze; "Alive II"-Kiss; and anything from Deep Purple and Black Sabbath (Ozzy days)… I could go on and on but those are just some ideas to pass on down!!!

Back on this day in 1969, the Supremes made their last appearance on the Ed Sullivan show singing "Someday We’ll Be Together."
